Celebrating Disability Awareness and Inclusion at Park Road Academy

At Park Road Academy, we believe that understanding, celebrating and embracing differences is fundamental to creating a truly inclusive school community where everyone belongs. Throughout the academic year, we recognise a range of national and international disability awareness days and weeks, providing meaningful opportunities for children to learn about different disabilities, challenge stereotypes, develop empathy and recognise the unique strengths and contributions of every individual. Through assemblies, classroom discussions, stories, workshops and opportunities to hear from people with lived experiences, we help children understand that disabilities can be visible or hidden and that everyone deserves respect, dignity, equality and the opportunity to thrive.

Our approach goes beyond raising awareness; we aim to develop genuine understanding, acceptance and positive attitudes that children will carry with them throughout their lives. Led by Mrs Sidwell, our disability awareness programme supports our wider commitment to inclusion, ensuring that every child feels valued, represented and empowered to make a positive difference in the world.
