Installation Art
This half term in art we have been learning all about installation art. We began by discussing what installation art is and explored lots of different examples. We had lots of fun getting hands-on and being artists! We identified and compared the features of art installations and talked about how space and scale can change how 3D art makes people feel.
We experimented with different ways of problem-solving in 3D by constructing art out of everyday objects from around the school. We looked at explosive and energetic work inspired by the artist Cai Guo-Qiang and used this to help us think creatively. Finally, we planned and created our own installation art based on the themes of deforestation and ocean pollution.
As part of this, we worked in groups and imagined that we had an unlimited budget to make our exhibition even more exciting. We discussed how we could use lighting, sound, colours, and materials to create memorable experiences for visitors, including ideas like moving lights, realistic sound effects, mist or wind machines, interactive elements, and large projected videos. Thinking this way helped us learn how artists consider space, senses, and technology to make powerful and unforgettable artwork.
