Art - Sculpture and 3D Paper Play

Year 1 have been exploring the exciting world of 3D art, taking inspiration from the work of artist Samantha Stephenson. The children have been experimenting with paper as a sculptural material, learning how to roll, twist and shape it to transform flat surfaces into dynamic 3D forms.

Using these techniques, the class created their own “3D drawings,” bringing lines and patterns to life by lifting them off the page. They also collaborated to design and build a beautiful “Tree of Life,” carefully arranging their rolled paper pieces to form branches, leaves and intricate textures.

This project has encouraged creativity, patience and fine motor skills, while giving the children a new perspective on how art can move beyond the page into three dimensions.
