Water Cycles
In Science, Year 4 created their own mini water cycles using a plastic zip-lock bag, water and a permanent marker. First, the children drew and labelled the key stages of the water cycle on the bag: evaporation, condensation and precipitation. They then added a small amount of water, sealed the bag tightly and placed it near a sunny window.
The class predicted that the sun’s warmth would heat the water, causing it to evaporate (turn into water vapour). As the vapour rose and touched the cooler sides of the bag, it would condense into tiny droplets. Eventually, the droplets would become heavy enough to fall back down like precipitation, just like rain.
It was fantastic to see the children explain how their mini-water cycle would work and even better to watch the process begin right before their eyes!
