Early Years Foundation Stage

At Park Road Academy Primary School, we recognise that the Early Years is a crucial and formative stage that lays the foundations for future success. Our vision is to provide a highly ambitious, knowledge-rich curriculum that is carefully sequenced to ensure all children develop the essential skills, vocabulary and understanding needed to thrive.
We prioritise communication and language at the heart of our provision, creating a rich, talk-filled environment where high-quality interactions, modelling and purposeful play drive learning forward. Through a well-balanced approach of direct teaching and expertly designed continuous provision, children are supported to think critically, explore independently and develop sustained concentration.
Our curriculum is inclusive by design. Skilled practitioners use precise assessment to identify need, adapt teaching and provide timely support, ensuring that all children, including those with SEND and those who are disadvantaged, achieve well from their starting points. We place a strong emphasis on developing independence, resilience and positive learning behaviours, enabling children to become confident, self-regulated learners.
Reading is central to our curriculum. Through a consistent and rigorous approach to early reading, alongside a love of stories and language, children quickly develop the foundations for reading success.
By the end of the Early Years, children at Park Road Academy demonstrate strong levels of engagement, secure knowledge across all areas of learning and a readiness for the demands of Key Stage 1. They leave Reception as confident, curious and capable learners, equipped not only with the skills they need, but with a genuine enthusiasm for learning that will sustain them throughout their education.
